Kena: Bridge of Spirits stood out during PlayStation 5's Future of Gaming presentation, and has become a favourite in the next-gen console's early lineup. Unfortunately, it's going to take a little longer to arrive than we thought; developer Ember Lab has decided it best to delay the game.
As stated in the above tweet, Kena will skip its holiday 2020 release date, and is now scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2021. The studio attributes the need for more time to the year's "many challenges" and the transition to home working. It's the same story we've heard many times throughout the year, but as Ember Lab says, it's the right decision for "the game and the well-being of the team".
In more positive news, Game Informer has been busy getting the inside scoop on the promising cross-gen adventure. The publication has gotten some juicy details on the PS5 version — it apparently boots up in just two seconds, and the developer is really digging into features like haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers.

Aw, that's too bad. That has to be a tough call this close to release, too.
I had this one marked for download on Christmas Morning.
But hey, something to look forward to in the New Year.
Feel sorry for Ember Labs but given the situation I can understand their decision. Release it when it's ready.
First Deathloop & Now Kena literally the two game's I was most excited for at launch were pushed to 2021 😭
That's sad to hear, but better than a buggy, messy launch. I hope Demon's Souls releases with the console. That and Cyberpunk are the only games I want this year.
Aww that’s a shame. The PS5 launch is looking less and less essential.
Will these new consoles have any games coming out with them? At the moment Cyberpunk is the game I want to play and I can do that anyway.
Then again looking back at PS4, it wasn't until 2015 that it really started to get going so I suppose nothing has really changed in that regard
Next gen from both Microsoft and Sony is looking rather bland and pointless for 2020, il just stick with my ps4 and switch until they give me a reason to get the ps5
Thank god. Too many games coming this fall. Much more breathing room next year.
Well, there goes yet another reason to get a next gen console at launch.
Release when it’s ready, we’ll be here
This is a good move also.... Too many high-profile games coming during this Fall season (all eyes will be on them). Releasing it during that season might have been actually bad for this game (financially speaking).
Take your time. Better to release the game next year (Q1).
THANK GOD. My wallet will suffer so much already this end of year...
The decision of delaying a PS5 purchase until next year is becoming easier and easier
Aww, I was looking forward to this being the first PS5 game I play! Well at least I'll have games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising to play. They should keep me busy for a few months!
@F3NIXII With these 2 games you can be happy thats for sure.
@playstation_king I think i agree just release next year and let the developers polish their next gen games too perfection.
Take your time guys. A game isn't good when it's done, it's done when its good.
It really doesn’t make sense to buy a PS5 this year. Don’t be surprised with more incoming delays.
So.... what are early adopters supposed to play on their shiny new consoles then...? This is the exact reason I’m waiting until next year to get a console. 2021 is gonna be a crowded as hell year it looks like...
PS5 and XSX looking like expensive paperweights on launch atm, not enough great games to entice me to want to shell out hundreds of pounds.
Especially when the Cyberpunk next gen update doesn't come till 2021.
It's okay, any delays are expected
Depending what Sony have left exclusive wise and we know Xbox has none for release date.
I think both companies should have had a back door agreement to delay next generation consoles until 2021 and release with 2 or 3 next generation exclusives made only for next generation.
Like I said depending on what Sony release. It is one lacklustre weird and strange next generation console release I have ever known.
Sony will have couple of exclusive at launch.yes this game got delayed is not good.but kena will be amazing and worth it.word up son
Definitely sucks but for the best. As many have said November and even December are just packed already so I'm sure they'll benefit from the delay.
Aw man that sucks. I guess they Kena finish it because of the coronavirus.
That's a shame but it's been a tough year for everyone and the delay doesn't sound huge. I feel bad for them because being available at launch would have been huge for this game, but it's best they polish it up.
Sony need to seriously show us what is available at launch and I mean true next gen consoles cause right now I am probably gonna pick up a ps5 around March or April next year. There are still a tonne of ps4 games coming out and I still have a few to get through with my backlog. No rush to get the ps5 at this moment
Noo, I plan to get this along with spidey mm and demons souls on ps5 this year
@STLamy I agree since I just purchased a Switch.
That is a shame...
As for a PS5. Didn't upgrade my graphics card because it had exclusive. I did because my games started running like crap on my old one. My 7 year old PS4 needs an upgrade.
Not sure why wait if I can get one. Not like it will be cheaper next year. I buy it now of in March 2021, same amount of cash will be used.
This sucks so much. I was really excited and looking forward to playing this game at Launch!
Here's hoping Early 2021 means February or March, instead of April.
@carlos82 We still have Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Godfall, Bugsnax in terms of PlayStation exclusives.
Also third party wise: Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Immortals: Fenyx Rising.
@KidBoruto Godfall doesn't appeal and Bugsnax is hardly a system seller, Spider-Man would be the one I'd buy but I'm not excited for that like I would be for the actual sequel to the recent Spider-Man game as I have no real affinity for Miles Morales.
As for the third party games, I can play them anyway. The only thing I'm actually excited to play at launch on PS5 is the Astro Bot game and then Ratchet and Clank presumably in a few months
All the passes given here for this like it's no big deal and expected with the situation on the world today meanwhile you all Blas hall infinite and then make fun when they do the right thing and push it back to make it as great as it should truly be.
You people take fanboys to a whole nother level
I guess it's OK to point then that the ps5 on launch is essentially a big expensive ps4 dlc player.
Atleast Xbox will give you tons and tons of games to go back and experience at incredible new levels like 120 fps or with HDR in game that came 15 years before that was a thing.
I'll be buying a ps5 and had no plans for an Xbox even though I've games on both forever (with my pc doing the Xbox work these days) but with the series s being so cheap and an awesome little box I figure I'll get one just to have a device that's compatible with the 15 years of xbox that came before the whole cross support with pc.
There's tons of games I own that are locked to actual Xbox hardware that will be nice to finally revisit and in awesome new modes and options.
As weird as it may sound, this may actually make me reconsider a day one purchase. I like Spider-Man, but I don't need it. There's no harm in buying it early next year at this point.
@carlos82 You haven't read any of Mile's comics or seen him in the recent cartoons?
Miles Morales is a primary sidekick in both Ultimate Spider-Man and the more recent Spider-Man (2017) cartoons.
Not to mention you get to know and love his character in Spider-Man (2018).
@carlos82 You also can't forget about Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where Miles Morales was the main character!
